Learning is probably the most integral part of what makes us human. Being able to absorb and process new information and data from internal and external stimuli is part of what makes you a living human. One of the wisest ways to become a respected and intelligent person is to constantly be learning. Everyday, you should be learning something new, and actively looking for new ideas and concepts to discover. The problem is that many people are extremely inefficient with how they learn, and that’s why I’ve made this post, to guide you with 3 reasons why you don’t learn effectively, how it impacts you, and how YOU can fix it.
#1: You Don’t Actively Seek Out New Information
This could probably sum up this entire topic. Actively seeking new opportunities to learn and perceive new information is CRUCIAL if you want to be able to learn effectively. It has such a huge impact on people that don’t search for learning experiences, and instead keep their brain dusty and unchallenged. It makes them become non-knowledgable individuals who have no goals in life, and no motivation to attempt any goals if they did have any. Knowledge is power, and it’s also confidence. The more you know about a topic, the more you’ll gain persistence to keep attacking the topic and achieving mastery in it. This may sound intuitive, but if you want to get better at learning, you have to go and learn. However, this doesn’t mean you should click off this to start searching “1000 random facts” on youtube, you have to take a second to actually figure out what you WANT to learn. An easy way to do this is to imagine an alternate reality where a perfect version of yourself exists out there somewhere. Try to imagine what this ‘being’ knows, what they’re an expert in. Use this to find out what you would be happy if you were a specialist in, it could legitimately be anything. Once you have this, do your research. There’s no insane magic trick that will give you this in an instant, no single 5 minute video you can watch that will ingrain you with everything you dreamed of. You simply have to go ahead, and learn. If you want to learn about programming, find full programming courses on youtube, there are several hour long informative courses on there. Use free course platforms like Coursera, Udemy, Codeacademy, Khan Academy, Duolingo, Udacity, Futurelearn, it doesn’t matter what you use, just start using it. Reading books is another great alternative, there are a plethora of books you can buy, borrow, get free pdf’s and read them online, other ebooks, audiobooks, etc. Find books on your topic, and read them. Set goals for how much you want to learn, and begin immediately.
#2: Your Productivity is Low
Productivity is an aspect of life that almost anyone can improve on, and it directly relates to efficiency. If your productivity is low, you’re going to waste time procrastinating, and will learn very inefficiently at a sluggish pace. Things need to be done quickly, and there are 2 main techniques that I like to implement to help me personally with this, the first one being a task list. I can’t stress enough how important a daily task list is, but if you want to see a step-by-step guide on why it’s so important, and how you can make an effective task list and actually end up completing it, you NEED to join the Youth Tribe. We GUARANTEE your success and speedy progression, so there’s no reason not to join the many others who are improving their lives as you read this, it is completely FREE, but the offer ends soon, don’t miss out: https://discord.gg/5JMeHyg9.
The 2nd technique that will boost your productivity is not delayed gratification. What I mean by this is if you really feel like something, don’t let yourself have it until you complete a task you’ve been meaning to do. For example, let’s say you really want to buy yourself a delicious chocolate or donut, but you also really need to finish your research project, you could set a 2 hour timer, and work with NO distractions to complete the section of the project you need to do in the designated time, and then reward yourself with that chocolate or donut you’ve been craving. If you haven’t done anything, why should you give yourself a reward? DO something first, and THEN proceed to reward yourself, as sort of a way to teach you that the completion work is directly linked with a prize, like how you would teach a dog to sit using treats. Over time, your brain will become accustomed to this, and your reward won’t need to be as extensive to give you that desired motivation to complete it. Just make sure that the reward isn’t something ridiculous like “Be lazy the rest of the day” when you’re work is only something like completing a school assignment. Be realistic, and aim to minimise the reward as you go on while maximising the work in order to train yourself to love working, you’ll feel more fulfilled if you actually execute this. I know this because I used this strategy to write and publish this post in half an hour.
#3: You Avoid Challenging or Stressful Situations
Sometimes, learning is more than just reading from a book or taking some notes. Learning can be as complex as experience. In fact, this is often the BEST type of learning, because due to the multiple sources of information reception, it is drilled deeper in your brain than memorising a few formulas or concepts. The optimal way to learn from experiences is to purposefully put yourself through something difficult. Stress tolerance is so important, and by doing this practice, you’ll be improving yourself in that realm as well. Give yourself a really ambitious goal, such as a really high amount of productivity and low amount of leisure for a certain period of time, and see how you deal with it. Put yourself through strenuous physical, psychological or emotional exercises that apply to every day life that you can increase your skill at. Do them periodically, as you want to have some time when you aren’t put through extreme stress. Completing these challenges will make you far more appreciative of your current life and situation, and will be a source of inspiration for you to do better than you currently are. For instance, when people fast for a religious tradition, it often makes the food they eat once they start eating again taste significantly better, and they feel much happier when they do have it, knowing the struggle they went through to receive it. True fasting isn’t the best one for you to implement, although intermittent fasting paired with exercise or productivity work is an extraordinarily applicable utility, and will greatly increase your learning efficiency.
Learning is an amazing process that happens subconsciously every day in our minds, and as we go on, the more we learn about how we learn. I want you to deeply consider the information I have provided you with, and take action to increase YOUR learning efficiency RIGHT NOW. The clock is ticking.
